The objective of the project is to produce a framework methodology for UKWIR, which allows a consistent approach to the understanding of mitigation measures that might be required for Heavily Modified Water Bodies controlled by water companies. The project work programme is focussed on the development of a Guidance document for water company practitioners. The guidance for water company practitioners will be a stand alone document that is specifically for developing mitigation solutions for water company controlled sites. The structure of these will be simple to navigate, with tiered approaches that become more complex as the user requires more technical detail. It will be supported by three toolboxes:
- An Ecosystem Impact Assessment Toolbox – for screening and assessing sites and mitigation proposals based on ecosystem benefit
- A Toolbox of Measures – comprising an updatable measures database and a measure selection tool to allow water company practitioners to identify, scope, design and develop mitigation options for consideration.
- A Toolbox for Option Assessment and Cost Benefit Analysis – to allow water company practitioners to identify the preferred and alternative programmes of measures at a waterbody-specific scale for consultation and detailed design leading to implementation
