Cascade Consulting were commissioned by Martin Write Associates to provide consultancy services to Denbighshire County Council in relation to the West Rhyl Coastal Defence scheme. The project entailed conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment of these scheme and the preparation of an Environmental Report to support their planning and consent applications.
Key issues included potential cumulative impacts on hydrology and geomorphology in the Clwyd estuary and effects on long shore drift from the upgrading of a harbour and training wall to give increased flood protection and the construction of a sustainable transport bridge across the estuary.
In order to achieve the necessary consents for the schemes, extensive consultation will be required with regulatory authorities, statutory consultees and key stakeholders. This is likely to include community consultation depending on the schemes progressed and the sensitivities identified.
